Winners Revealed

May we introduce our lovely ladies, and the winners of our naming contest!

We loved Kelly's suggestion for our new reversible apron.  Annie Jane!

The beautiful lady has a name as classic as she is: Ava!  (Named by Lara at goodcookdoris.)

We couldn't resist the suggestion made by Joanna for this sweet number.  Meet Kenzie!

Many of you agreed this new apron needed an Asian-inspired name, and we loved Valerie's gentle suggestion... meet Song!

We couldn't choose just one name for this vintage-inspired beauty, so we settled on our top two favorites... and put them together!  So meet Ella Grace!  (Named by Christine and Amber.)

~~~~~~
And now, the moment you've been waiting for... the winner of a free apron!
Well, we had a highly scientific drawing process.  First I wrote all the winning names on slips of paper.
Then I presented them to my 17 month old daughter and waited for her to pull one out of my hand.  If there's one thing I can count on, it is that she wants whatever I have.  So it didn't take long.
And which name did she choose?
Ella!  Named by Christine.
Congratulations Christine!  Let us know which apron you'd like!
And for the rest of you, we'll leave the coupon open for the rest of this week, so you still have time to get your favorite apron at 50% off!  And if you participated but didn't get the coupon code, please e-mail me at carrie@scarletthreads.org, and I'll send it to you right away!  Thank you so much for your names.  We had a hard time choosing and definitely want to file away some of your ideas for future additions to our shop!
Naming Contest: Reversible Fantabulousness
Hands down, the reversible aprons are our most popular offering. Penelope sold out in a matter of days, Elle was gone before we even knew it, and Mattie May inventory is dwindling! If the past is any indication of the future, we don't expect our newest reversible apron to last long on the shelves. Who would? Just look at her, she's gorgeous!
Both sides of this apron are beautiful and it is almost a shame to upstage what you are wearing underneath. Don't blame the apron, it's Hannah the Threads Hunter who designed her! On one side there is a lovely blue background dotted with classic pink and red flowers and a ruffle on the top and bottom. The other side features a modern floral design of teals, blues, and browns against a not too white background. The apron is trimmed in milk chocolate polka dot, which forms the ties for the waist and neck.
You can leave your suggestion in the comments, but be sure to check Facebook for the other suggestions! Remember, just for participating you will get a 50% off coupon for your entire order in our shop - just e-mail carrie@scarletthreads.org with "coupon code" in the subject line after giving us your fabulous name idea! The winner will be entered in a drawing with the other naming contest winners for a beautiful apron of your choice!
We have 5 new aprons in this product line, so I call that good odds! Don't miss the other 4...
  1. Art Deco Apron
  2. Vintage Floral Apron
  3. Teal Anna Apron
  4. Plum Anna Apron
Note: We currently only ship to the US and Canada, which applies to giveaways too. :)
Naming Contest: Plum Anna
Anna has returned in a fun Asian fabric! It's a nice reminder of our roots in that small village in China and after all of the requests we've had for an Asian theme, we should hear much rejoicing from the ST Community.
This is definitely our fun and functional apron. If you are chef like me, you are going to need full coverage in the kitchen - and even that might not save me (but it makes it better). The plum tones mixed with spring green and pale blues won't be missed!
You can leave your suggestion in the comments, but be sure to check Facebook for the other suggestions! Remember, just for participating you will get a 50% off coupon for your entire order in our shop - just e-mail carrie@scarletthreads.org with "coupon code" in the subject line after giving us your fabulous name idea! The winner will be entered in a drawing with the other naming contest winners for a beautiful apron of your choice!
We have 5 new aprons in this product line, so I call that good odds! Don't miss the three aprons from earlier this week!!
  1. Art Deco Apron
  2. Vintage Floral Apron
  3. Teal Anna Apron
Note: We currently only ship to the US and Canada, which applies to giveaways too. :)
Naming Contest: Teal Anna
We've finally reprised our very first apron style, Anna! She can't just go by "Teal Anna" because that would be incredibly unoriginal. We need your help!  Remember, just for participating you will get a 50% off coupon for your entire order in our shop - just e-mail carrie@scarletthreads.org with "coupon code" in the subject line after giving us your fabulous name idea! The winner will be entered in a drawing with the other naming contest winners for a beautiful apron of your choice! (We have 5 new aprons in this product line, so I call that good odds!)
Naming Contest: Vintage Floral
Our Naming Contest and Apron Giveaway continues with our latest Savannah style, which is in need of a moniker. As usual, our online community is up to the task.
Remember, just for participating you will get a 50% off coupon for your entire order in our shop - just e-mail carrie@scarletthreads.org with "coupon code" in the subject line after giving us your fabulous name idea! The winner will be entered in a drawing with the other naming contest winners for a beautiful apron of your choice!
We have 5 new aprons in this product line, so I call that good odds! Hop over to the other posts to leave suggestions for those, too!
  1. Art Deco Apron
  2. Vintage Floral Apron
  3. Teal Anna Apron
  4. Plum Anna Apron
I love the delicate roses paired with a hot pink polka dot. This is definitely our most ethereal fabric pairing to date. Didn't someone tell me that pink and grey is the new black? I'm sensing this is the perfect gift for a blushing bride or her bridal party. Playing house when you are first married (as I can attest to) is all the more fun when you have the perfect outfit. Gorgeous apron? Check! Pearls? Check! Heels? Check!
Leave your suggestion in a comment here and be sure to visit Facebook to see the other entries!
Note: We currently only ship to the US and Canada, which applies to giveaways too. :)
Naming Contest: Art Deco
First off is our new Half Apron! Remember, just for participating you will get a 50% off coupon for your entire order in our shop - just e-mail carrie@scarletthreads.org with "coupon code" in the subject line after giving us your fabulous name idea! The winner will be entered in a drawing with the other naming contest winners for a beautiful apron of your choice!
We have 5 new aprons in this product line, so I call that good odds! Don't miss all the aprons!
  1. Art Deco Apron
  2. Vintage Floral Apron
  3. Teal Anna Apron
  4. Plum Anna Apron
This gorgeous half apron has a beautiful monochromatic body with an art deco floral print and a brilliant red trim for contrast. In this age where Mad Men reigns on television and the styles of by-gone years have seen resurgence, we think this style will be one of our best sellers. For those of you who have a bit more classic taste, think Humphrey Bogart in Casa Blanca saying "Here's looking at you, kid." (Don't think about that too much, or you might go weak in the knees with a hot tray in your hands. Danger!)
What shall we call her? Leave a comment here or on Facebook. One entry per person per apron, please!
Note: We currently only ship to the US and Canada, which applies to giveaways too. :)
Art Deco Apron Naming Contest
Didn't Hannah, our new Thread Hunter, do a fantastic job at the fabric market! Come to think of it, this was her first time flying solo as product designer and, as you can see, she did tremendous. In addition to the 5 new aprons, we discovered some more Aubergine fabric and were able to restock with a very slight variation in trim fabric (the pattern is finer... the coloring is the same!)
Tasty Tuesday: lentil soup!
Hello friends! Perhaps you saw my teaser on facebook last weekend, where I mentioned my plans to make lentil soup for dinner Sunday night. For several days, I'd been thinking about it, for some reason. Do you ever get an idea in your head, and then not be able to focus on anything else until you've done that? No? Just me? Oh dear...  ;)   Well, this time, it was lentil soup. I found a recipe that sounded terrific, and my decision was made for me. I went out to get the things I'd need, though some of them I already had. Apparently I had thought about making this earlier, because there were two unopened bags of lentils in my pantry!
The recipe called for chopped onions, celery, and shredded carrots. I admit, I don't like onions much- I like them cooked in things, but not on their own, and NOT raw! I found this Mirepoix at Trader Joe's, which was a container with chopped carrots, onions, and celery, and the perfect amount of each! The best part? I think it was $2.49, which is less than it would have been if I had bought all three individually!
As I went to open this package of sausage, I realized that its best buy date was well past the date I was cooking with it. The package was still sealed, but had been in the fridge, not freezer, so I was hesitant to use it. I had some kielbasa in the freezer, so I used that instead.
First up, crumble the kielbasa in the bottom of a pot, with some olive oil. Brown it up, and once it has cooked, remove from the pan.
Add the veggies to the pan, let them cook through, stirring as needed. Add minced garlic. The recipe I used called for cumin and red chili flakes. As I was cooking, I realized I was out of both. Oooops. I used black pepper and maybe something else. Now I don't remember, hehe!
Add the kielbasa (or sausage!) back to the pot, and add the chicken stock. After rinsing the lentils, add those to the pot too.
Let the pot simmer at low, uncovered, for about 45 minutes and soon, your lentil soup will look like this-
Pour yourself a glass of wine, butter a piece of bread or two, and add a generous sprinkle of parmesan cheese to your bowl of lentil soup, and then sit back and enjoy a really delicious dinner!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Spicy Chicken Sausage and Lentil Soup
makes a big pot of soup.  serves 8
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound spicy chicken sausage, uncased
1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
3 celery stalks, finely diced
2 carrots, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons dried ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes
2 cups uncooked French lentils, rinsed
8 cups chicken stock
salt and pepper to taste
parmesan cheese, olive oil, and bread to serve
In a large saucepan over medium heat, warm olive oil.  Add the uncased chicken sausage and cook, breaking up with a spatula as it cooks.  Sausage should finish cooking in small chunks.  Remove from pan.
Add a touch more olive oil if necessary.  Add onions, celery, and carrots.  Cook until the onions are transluscent, about five to seven minutes.  Stir occasionally.
Add the garlic, cumin, and chili flakes, and cook for one minute more.
Add the sausage back to the pan.  Stir to incorporate.  Add the lentils and chicken stock.  Reduce the heat to low and simmer the soup, uncovered, until the lentils are tender, about 45 minutes.
Serve soup with a generous sprinkling of parmesan cheese, a drizzle of olive oil, and good crusty bread.  Soup will last, in an airtight container in the fridge, for up to 5 days.  Soup also freezes well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't have eight people living in my house, but I had enough to last me most of the week! Yes, I ate the same thing for dinner four nights in a row...what of it?! This wasn't a bad thing! You could certainly skip the sausage if you are not a meat eater, or add spices for variety (curry, anyone?!). Lentil soup is so versatile, and so comforting, I think. Despite it being June, and so hot here in Washington, DC, I do love soup for dinner! The funniest thing about this, was that my mother made lentil soup the same night! We had no idea that the other was making it, until we spoke that night after dinner! Too funny!
What is your favorite soup to eat? To make?
FiT Friday: Brainstorming Continues!
For our first FiT Friday, we want to whip ST into shape!
Carrie's return to Scarlet Threads has completely reinvigorated the team. I'm out reading books about start-ups and we are in constant communication about how to grow our community, our retail partnerships, and most importantly the number of women that we employ/serve.
We've come up with several thoughts that we'd love your feedback on. We'll be rolling all of them out soon, but your feedback might change which one gets our attention first!
Please vote for your favorite in the comments!
1. Thrifty Thursday - one random product of Carrie or my choosing will go on super sale every week.
2. Scarlet Scraps - limited edition products made from our remnants (remember Carrie's baby quilt?)
3. Trunk Show Revamp - we have the Apron Party... but watch out for better rewards and more fun!
4. Affiliates - blogs or personal! You share your code with your community, they buy, you get free ST product!
Let the voting begin!
