Moon Cakes!

Ever had one?

Moon Cakes are a very important treat for the Mid-Autumn Festival which was September 19th on our western, solar calendar this year.

The Chinese locals seem to gobble them up. Or at least, that's what it looks like because they were literally flying off of the shelves yesterday afternoon! But do the Chinese really enjoy them?

Sure, Moon Cakes are absolutely beautiful. Inscribed on top of each cake is an intricate design along with the brand and flavor stamped in.

But as far as taste goes, most of the foreigners I've met think that they're gross.

I understand, though. Some of the most popular flavors to give as gifts to unsuspecting foreigners are preserved meat and salty egg yolk. But you've really got to try the red bean paste flavors, the seedy nutty ones and the fruity flavors. Don't give up on moon cakes after just one taste!

...and fireworks in September rivaling any 4th of July celebration? Well, let's just say that China really can't be beat when it comes to holidays.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
